On this day in 1972, a bomb placed by the terrorist group the Weather Underground exploded in one of the Pentagon‘s fourth-floor bathrooms. No one was injured, but the bomb caused $75,000 damage. In the video above, Morley Safer anchors coverage for CBS News beginning at the 4:10 mark.

Perhaps not coincidentally, May 19 also marks the birthday of Ho Chi Minh (1890), and members of the Weather Underground, including the infamous Bill Ayers, later said their bomb was planted in retaliation for the U.S. bombing of Hanoi.
